A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) also referred to as a visitor visa, is one of the general essentials when it comes to visiting Canada on a short-term business, tourism, or as a visit to relatives. This blog provides you with a quick overview of the application process:

  1. 1. Determine Visa Type

There are different types of Visas for which Pakistani Nationals can visit Canada:

  1. Visitor Visa

Applicability: This type of Visa is only applicable for short-term stays in the country.

Maximum Duration: Upto 06 x Months (per entry)

  1. Super Visa

If someone wishes to visit his/her family as a parent or grandparent, he/she can apply for this visa. This visa can be extendable for up to 05 years.

  1. Transit Visa

It can be a Visa or eTA. It shows that you meet all the requirements to enter Canada. It allows you to transit through Canadian Airport for up to 48 hours.

This blog’s prime focus is the Visitor Visa. Eligibility Requirements, Documents, the Application process, and all other relevant information will be discussed in detail in the following sections.

  1. Eligibility Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled before applying for the visitor visa:

  • A valid passport
  • Be in good health and may need a medical examination
  • Applicant must not have any conviction in any criminal or immigration-related activity
  • Prove that you have ties (such as family, job, or property) that will bring you back to Pakistan
  • You are required to show that you have enough funds/money to sponsor your stay. The exact amount depends on the length of your stay and accommodation plans​
  1. Prepare Your Application

There are two modes to submit your application:

  1. Online: You can apply through the official portal. This mode is encouraged for faster processing of applications.
  2. Via Paper: You can submit your application in person.

After selecting the mode of application, the following documents are required to be uploaded:

  • Completed visa application forms
  • Passport-sized photos (as per Canadian specifications)
  • A valid passport
  • Proof of funds (recent bank statements, pay slips, or an employment letter)
  • Travel itinerary or invitation letter from a Canadian host
  • Biometrics and possibly a medical exam​
  1. Submit Biometrics

Pakistani applicants are required to provide their biometrics such as fingerprints and photos. Once you fill out your visa application, they will write to you through a Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) telling you where you will be required to give this data. Biometrics are valid for 10 years.

  1. Pay the Visa Fees

For TRV the people have to pay CAD 100 as processing fee additionally biometrics charge CAD 85. For those who submit their application as a family; The total charge for all biometric each member of the family can be up to CAD 170.

  1. Application Processing Time

The TRV processing takes different working days depending on the number of applications and the preparedness of the application. From it, it is suggested to be taken several weeks prior the expected time of travel. The processing time could be once seen on the site of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

  1. Attend an Interview (If required)

It is not always necessary that all candidates will go through an interview. If there is any requirement by the immigration authorities to conduct an interview, the applicant may be asked to schedule an interview at the nearest application center in Pakistan.

  1. Track Your Application

After applying you can check the status of your application through the internet at the IRCC portal.

  1. Travel to Canada

After the visa has been issued it is endorsed on the passport of the holder. The officer of the Canada Border Services Agency will decide whether or not you can enter and, if you can, the officer will write down how long you are allowed to remain in Canada in your passport.
