Are you a dietitian or nutritionist in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad or anywhere else in Pakistan? You can immigrate to Canada as a dietitian through Express Entry, and your degree has a major effect on your CRS score. A single applicant with only a four-year BS cannot reach the latest cut-off of 475, while an MPhil holder with strong English can.
How Canada Classifies Dietitians and Nutritionists (NOC 31121)
Canada classifies both dietitians and nutritionists under NOC 31121, a TEER 1 occupation that requires a university degree. Job titles in this code include clinical dietitian, community nutritionist, public health dietitian and research dietitian. Holistic nutritionists, dietary technicians and food service supervisors are classified under other codes.
The law protects the two titles differently. According to Dietitians of Canada, “dietitian” is a protected title across Canada, while “nutritionist” is protected only in Alberta, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
For Express Entry, your job title does not determine your NOC code. IRCC checks that your work matches the NOC lead statement and a substantial number of its main duties, including all essential duties.
Dietitian Work Experience That Counts for Canada PR
Hospital, public health and research roles in Pakistan usually count, as long as the work was paid. For the healthcare category, you need 12 months of full-time work, or the same hours part-time, within the past three years. These months do not need to be continuous. The Federal Skilled Worker Program also requires one year of continuous paid work in the same occupation within the last 10 years.
These roles match NOC 31121 duties:
- Clinical dietitian: assessing nutritional needs and preparing diet plans for diabetic, kidney, cardiac or ICU patients in a hospital
- Public health or community nutritionist: planning and running nutrition programs for government departments or NGOs
- Research dietitian: conducting nutrition studies at a university or teaching hospital
Unpaid and volunteer work do not count, including an unpaid internship completed for PNDS registration. Each reference letter should be on letterhead, signed by your supervisor or HR officer, and state your job title, dates, duties, weekly hours and salary.
CRS Score Needed to Immigrate to Canada as a Dietitian
The latest healthcare draw, held on 4 September 2026, had a cut-off of 475. For dietitians, the degree often decides whether the score reaches it. A four-year BS earns 120 education points for a single applicant, while an MPhil rated as a Canadian master’s degree earns 135. If the BS and MPhil are counted as two separate credentials instead, the education points are 128.
The table below assumes a single applicant with three or more years of paid foreign work and the same CLB score in all four English skills. It does not include extra points, such as for French or a sibling in Canada:

A BS holder can score up to 466, so a provincial nomination is the main route, and it adds 600 points. An MPhil holder clears the cut-off with CLB 10 up to age 30, and after 30 a provincial nomination works the same way. How to Apply for Canada PR as a Dietitian: 5 Steps
The process has five key steps.
Step 1: Get Both Degrees Assessed
RCC requires an Educational Credential Assessment for each degree counted in your CRS score, so ask WES or another designated organization to assess your BS and MPhil together. An MPhil rated as a master’s degree adds 15 CRS points. Dietitians do not need an assessment from the Medical Council of Canada, which assesses only doctors.
Step 2: Score CLB 9 or Higher in English
ake IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core. In IELTS General Training, CLB 9 requires 8.0 in listening and 7.0 in reading, writing and speaking. CLB 10 requires 8.5 in listening, 8.0 in reading and 7.5 in writing and speaking.

Step 4: Receive an Invitation to Apply
IRCC has held three healthcare draws in 2026, with cut-offs of 467 in February and 475 in June and September. Applicants with a provincial nomination receive 600 extra points, which leads to an invitation in the next draw. Your profile stays valid for 12 months, so it can be selected in any draw during that period.
Step 5: Submit Your Application Within 60 Days
After you receive an Invitation to Apply, you have 60 days to upload your documents. These include reference letters, proof of funds, proof of your immigration medical exam and police certificates from every country where you lived for six months or more in a row in the last 10 years. A single applicant must show CAD 15,263 in settlement funds and pay CAD 1,675 in government fees, including biometrics.
How to Become a Registered Dietitian in Canada
You can get Canada PR without dietitian registration, but you need registration to work as a dietitian in a hospital or clinic. Every province except Quebec requires the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination. The CDRE exam is a four-hour online test held each spring and fall. You can take it up to three times, and after two unsuccessful attempts you complete further education before the final one.
Ontario assesses internationally educated dietitians through its Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) process. You start with the Knowledge and Competency Assessment Tool (KCAT), and a Level 1 result lets you move on to the Performance-Based Assessment (PBA). The College of Dietitians of Ontario lists these fees:
- Application fee: CAD 185
- KCAT: CAD 425
- PBA: CAD 2,300
- CDRE: CAD 750 from the November 2026 sitting, up from CAD 600
These four fees total CAD 3,660, excluding the cost of transcripts, credential assessment and language testing. After passing the PBA, you complete the 15 to 20-hour Dietitians of Canada Critical Care Nutrition Course before the CDRE.
You take the KCAT and PBA online under remote supervision, so you can start them from Pakistan while your PR application is in progress. The PBA follows Eastern Daylight Time, which is nine hours behind Pakistan. Alberta offers a similar online competency assessment for CAD 600, held each spring and fall.
Do I need PNDS registration to immigrate to Canada as a dietitian?
No. IRCC does not ask for Pakistan Nutrition and Dietetic Society registration. Instead, it requires an Educational Credential Assessment, English test results and proof of paid work under NOC 31121.
Can French help a dietitian with a BS reach the 475 cut-off?
Yes. French at NCLC 7, the French equivalent of CLB 7, in all four skills adds 62 CRS points when your English is CLB 5 or higher. For a 27-year-old BS holder with CLB 9, the score rises from 454 to 516.
Can I work as a nutritionist in Canada without registration?
Yes, in provinces where “nutritionist” is not a protected title, such as Ontario and British Columbia. Dietitian jobs in hospitals and clinics require registration with the provincial regulatory college.
How long does Canada PR take for a dietitian?
After you receive an Invitation to Apply, you have 60 days to submit your application. IRCC processes most complete Express Entry applications within six months, so the full process usually takes about eight months from the invitation.
