Alberta Advantage Immigration Program

July 10, 2026

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is running more draws than any other province in Canada this year. In the first six months of 2026 alone, Alberta held 56 selection rounds and invited over 9,500 candidates. The program welcomes skilled workers, healthcare staff, tech professionals, farmers, and business owners. This guide walks you through every stream, the latest draw results, and the route that suits your profile.

Key Takeaways: Alberta Advantage Immigration Program 2026

  • What it is: Alberta’s provincial nominee program, run with IRCC, that nominates workers and entrepreneurs for Canada PR.
  • Latest draws: Six draws between 17 and 29 June 2026 issued 1,037 invitations, with cutoffs from 47 to 71 on Alberta’s own point scale.
  • 2026 quota: Alberta holds 6,403 nomination spots this year and had used 3,261 by 30 June, so about half are still open.
  • Eight streams: Four streams for workers, including health and tech pathways, and four streams for entrepreneurs, including farmers and startup founders.

What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, or AAIP, is Alberta’s economic immigration program. It nominates people for permanent residence when they have the skills to fill the province’s job shortages, or when they plan to buy or start a business there. The governments of Alberta and Canada run the program together, and the details are available on the official Alberta website.

A nomination does not give you PR on its own. It adds 600 points to your CRS score in the Express Entry pool, and IRCC makes the final PR decision. To see how a provincial pick compares with the federal route, read our guide on Express Entry vs PNP.

AAIP Draws 2026: Latest Results and Cutoff Scores

No province has run more nominee draws than Alberta in 2026. By 30 June, the province had completed 56 selection rounds and invited 9,599 candidates. In the last two weeks of June alone, Alberta held six draws and sent 1,037 invitations across healthcare, tech, aviation, trades, tourism, and general worker streams. AAIP Streams for Workers

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program runs four streams for workers, and each one serves a different kind of applicant.

Alberta Opportunity Stream

This is the biggest stream in the program. It serves people who already live and work in Alberta with a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer. It took about 69 percent of all June invitations, with 720 invites in a single round on 17 June at a cutoff of 58. Its 2026 quota is 3,425 nominations, the largest of any stream.

Alberta Express Entry Stream

The AAIP Express Entry stream picks candidates from the federal Express Entry pool. Alberta invites profiles that match its priority sectors and occupations. The stream also holds special pathways. The Accelerated Tech Pathway invited 100 tech workers on 19 June at a score of 59, and the Priority Sectors Pathway invited 35 aviation and skilled trade workers on 24 June at a score of just 47.

Alberta Dedicated Health Care Pathway

The Alberta Dedicated Health Care Pathway serves nurses, physiotherapists, and other health workers who hold a job offer from an Alberta healthcare employer. It ran two rounds in late June, one for Express Entry candidates at a score of 64 and one non-Express Entry round at 63. Alberta also nominated 50 practice-ready physicians this year outside its regular quota. Our guide on Canada immigration for healthcare professionals covers this group in detail.

Rural Renewal Stream

This stream lets designated rural communities recruit newcomers for local jobs. It holds 1,000 nomination spots in 2026 and had used 563 by the end of June. There is also a small Tourism and Hospitality Stream for people already working in that sector in Alberta, with 150 spots for the year.

AAIP Streams for Entrepreneurs

Alberta offers four streams for people who want to start or buy a business in the province, and each one has its own rules. The table below compares them side by side.

Rural Entrepreneur Stream

This stream is designed for people who want to establish or purchase a business in a rural Alberta community, meaning a town of under 100,000 people outside Cal gary and Edmonton. The process begins with the community itself. You approach a community that takes part in the program, complete an exploratory visit in person or by video call, and then present a business proposal summary.

The ownership requirement is at least 51 percent of a new business, or full ownership if you purchase an existing one. For language, CLB 4 in English is enough for this stream.

Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

This stream serves international graduates of public Alberta institutions. You need two years of full-time study at an eligible Alberta school, a valid Post-Graduation Work Permit, and CLB 7 in all four language skills. You must plan to own at least 34 percent of a business in Calgary or Edmonton, or 51 percent in a regional area, and any partners must be Canadian citizens or PRs.

Alberta Farm Stream

The Farm Stream is for experienced farmers who plan to buy or start a farming business in Alberta. You must prove farm management experience and show a net worth of at least CAD 500,000 to invest. This stream has no minimum language requirement and applications go to the AAIP directly by mail.

Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

This stream suits many applicants in Pakistan, because it is for graduates educated entirely outside Canada who want to launch a startup in Alberta. You need a degree earned in the last ten years with an ECA report, CLB 5 in English, and a recommendation letter from one of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program designated agencies.

Together the four entrepreneur streams hold just 90 nomination spots in 2026, so only the strongest business plans get through. If you plan to apply, our business immigration team can build a business plan that meets Alberta’s requirements.

How the AAIP Selection Process Works

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program works on a selection basis, not a first-come queue. Worker streams have used an EOI system since 30 September 2024. You submit a profile, Alberta scores it on its own point scale, and the province invites the top candidates in each draw.

How Many Alberta Nominations Are Left in 2026?

About half of Alberta’s quota is still open. The province received 6,403 nomination slots from the federal government for 2026 and had issued 3,261 by 30 June. The health pathways still had 342 of their 500 spots open, and the Accelerated Tech Pathway had 284 of its 600 left.

Alberta’s worker pool held 37,497 EOI’s at the end of June, and most of them sat under the Alberta Opportunity Stream. So a complete file with the right documents makes the difference between getting invited and waiting in the pool.

Alberta Immigration from Pakistan: Which Route Fits You?

Alberta immigration from Pakistan works differently for each profile, so it is important to identify the right stream.

  • Skilled professional in the Express Entry pool: The AAIP Express Entry stream is your best option, since Alberta can select you from the pool without a valid job offer.
  • Nurse, physiotherapist, or other health worker: Target the health pathway, but you need a job offer from an Alberta healthcare employer first.
  • IT and tech professional: The Accelerated Tech Pathway is inviting steadily, with 100 invitations in its 19 June round alone.
  • Business owner or startup founder: The Rural Entrepreneur and Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur streams accept applicants from outside Canada with the right plan and funds.
  • Farmer with capital: The Farm Stream takes direct applications with no language requirement, if your net worth reaches CAD 500,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I apply for the AAIP from Pakistan without a job offer?

Yes. The AAIP Express Entry stream can select you directly from the federal pool, and no Alberta job offer is needed for it. Most other worker streams, including the health pathway, require an Alberta job offer or Alberta work experience.

How many points does an AAIP nomination add?

An AAIP nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score. A candidate waiting at 460 jumps to 1,060, far above any general draw cutoff this year, though IRCC still makes the final PR decision.

What score do I need in the AAIP draws 2026?

The June cutoffs ranged from 47 to 71 on Alberta’s own points scale, and every stream has a different cutoff in each draw. These are provincial scores, not CRS scores, so do not compare them with federal draw results.

Can I apply to two AAIP streams at the same time?

No. The AAIP allows only one active application at a time across all streams, and fees are not refunded. If you later find a better stream for your profile, you must withdraw your current application and pay the fee again.

Do I need an existing business to apply for an entrepreneur stream?

No. The AAIP assesses entrepreneur applications on the strength of the business plan. Once Alberta approves your application, you establish or purchase the business in the province. The Farm Stream is the exception, as it requires proven farm management experience and documented investment funds.

Ready to Apply Through the AAIP?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is running draws almost every week, and about half of its 2026 quota is still available. With eight streams and a one-application rule, the real question is which stream suits your profile.
