July 10, 2026
On 7 October 2026, Alberta had 1,062 provincial nominations remaining for the year. For Express Entry candidates, a nomination through Alberta’s Express Entry stream adds 600 CRS points, a significant advantage when 90.6% of the pool scored 500 or below on 13 September.
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) allocates nominations across 8 streams, many requiring an Alberta job offer or community connection. This guide explains which streams may be open to applicants from Pakistan and what each one requires.

ToggleKey Takeaways: Alberta Advantage Immigration Program 2026
- Nominations remaining: Alberta had 1,062 of its 6,603 nominations left on 7 October 2026, so 84% of the 2026 quota has been issued.
- Largest stream: the Alberta Opportunity Stream has issued 3,105 nominations, but only temporary foreign workers employed full-time in Alberta can apply.
- Draw scores: the AAIP ranks candidates on its own 100-point grid rather than the CRS. Cut-offs between 22 September and 7 October 2026 ranged from 51 to 64.
- Routes from outside Canada: the Dedicated Health Care Pathway (with an Alberta healthcare job offer), the Rural Renewal Stream (with a community endorsement), selected Express Entry priority-sector draws and the four entrepreneur streams.
- Alberta fees: worker applicants pay $135 to submit an EOI and $1,500 to apply, plus IRCC’s permanent residence fees.
What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is Alberta’s Provincial Nominee Program, also known as the Alberta PNP. It nominates workers who can fill labour shortages and entrepreneurs who plan to start or buy a business in the province.
Alberta and the federal government run the program together. Alberta selects and nominates candidates, while Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) assesses the permanent residence application and makes the final decision. Alberta publishes the current eligibility rules for each stream on its official AAIP website.
A nomination leads to permanent residence through one of two routes:
- Express Entry-aligned nomination: adds 600 points to the candidate’s CRS score. Since the AAIP Express Entry stream requires a CRS of at least 300, every nominee reaches a minimum of 900, well above the 725 cut-off in the 28 September 2026 PNP draw.
- Non-Express Entry nomination: nominees from streams such as the Alberta Opportunity Stream apply to IRCC for permanent residence directly, outside the Express Entry system.
For a side-by-side comparison of the provincial and federal routes, see our guide on Express Entry vs PNP.
AAIP Eligibility: Which Stream Fits in 2026?
The program has 8 streams: 4 for workers and 4 for entrepreneurs. AAIP eligibility depends largely on an applicant’s existing connection to Alberta, because most worker streams require Alberta work experience, an Alberta job offer or a community endorsement.
Stream or pathway | Designed for | Alberta job offer required? | 2026 allocation |
Alberta Opportunity Stream | Temporary foreign workers employed in Alberta | Yes, and the applicant must already work in Alberta | 3,562 |
Alberta Express Entry Stream | Candidates in the Express Entry pool | Depends on the pathway | 1,250 |
Dedicated Health Care Pathways | Health professionals eligible for Alberta licensure | Yes, from an Alberta health employer | 518 |
Rural Renewal Stream | Workers endorsed by a designated rural community | Yes, plus a community endorsement | 1,057 |
Tourism and Hospitality Stream | Tourism and hospitality workers in Alberta | Yes, from the applicant’s current Alberta employer | 156 |
Entrepreneur streams (4) | Business owners, graduates and farmers | No, a business plan is assessed instead | 60 |

Alberta Opportunity Stream
This is the largest AAIP stream, designed for temporary foreign workers already employed full-time in Alberta. Its pool held 21,667 profiles on 7 October 2026, more than all other worker streams combined. Applicants need:
- a valid work permit, such as an LMIA-based permit or a PGWP based on a credential from a publicly funded Alberta institution
- a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in their current occupation
- CLB 5 for TEER 0 to 3 occupations or CLB 4 for TEER 4 and 5 occupations (CLB 7 for nurse aides)
- high school education equivalent to Canadian standards, usually confirmed with an ECA
- 12 months of full-time work in that occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or 24 months in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months
PGWP holders who studied at a publicly funded Alberta institution need only 6 months of full-time work in Alberta within the last 18 months.
AAIP Express Entry Stream
This stream selects candidates directly from the federal Express Entry pool. Candidates need an active profile, a CRS score of at least 300 and eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Trades Program. Alberta invites candidates through targeted pathways and draws, including:
- Accelerated Tech Pathway: for candidates in an eligible tech occupation who either work in Alberta or hold a full-time Alberta job offer lasting at least 12 months. It invited 100 candidates on 22 September 2026 at a minimum score of 59.
- Priority sector draws: for candidates whose primary occupation is in a sector Alberta is targeting, such as construction, agriculture or aviation. Some invitations go to candidates without an Alberta job offer.
- Law Enforcement Pathway: for candidates with a job offer from an Alberta police service. Only 12 nominations are allocated to it in 2026.
Priority sector draws are the main option for candidates without a job offer, but only 3 of their 619 nominations for 2026 remained on 7 October.
Alberta Dedicated Health Care Pathway
The Alberta Dedicated Health Care Pathway is for health professionals, such as nurses and physiotherapists, who hold a full-time job offer from an Alberta health employer and meet Alberta’s licensing requirements for their profession.
The pathway has two versions. The Express Entry version requires a CRS score of at least 300 and eligibility for a federal program. The non-Express Entry version is for candidates who cannot qualify for Express Entry and requires CLB 5 in each skill. On 7 October 2026, 176 of the pathway’s 518 nominations were still available. For more on licensing, see our guide to Canada immigration for healthcare professionals.
Rural Renewal Stream
This stream allows designated rural communities to recruit workers for local jobs. Applicants need a full-time job offer from an employer in the community, 12 months of full-time work experience within the last 18 months and an endorsement letter from the community’s economic development organization, which is valid for one year.
Candidates outside Canada are eligible, but only for TEER 0 to 3 occupations, and they must show settlement funds. The stream had 291 nominations remaining on 7 October 2026, second only to the Opportunity Stream.
Tourism and Hospitality Stream
The Tourism and Hospitality Stream is for workers already employed in Alberta hotels, restaurants and tourism businesses. Applicants need an LMIA-based work permit, at least 6 months of full-time work with their current employer and CLB 4. It is the most competitive worker stream in 2026: 3,138 profiles were competing for 15 remaining nominations, and its draws had cut-offs of 71 to 73.

AAIP Entrepreneur Streams: Requirements and Investment
Alberta offers four entrepreneur streams for candidates who plan to start or buy a business in the province. Together, they have 60 nominations for 2026. By 7 October, 24 nominations remained, with 214 applications still in processing.
Stream | Designed for | Language | Investment and ownership |
Rural Entrepreneur | Starting or buying a business in a community of under 100,000 people, outside Calgary and Edmonton | CLB 4 | $300,000 net worth, $100,000 investment, 51% of a new business or 100% of an existing one |
Graduate Entrepreneur | Graduates of an Alberta public institution with a valid PGWP | CLB 7 | At least 34% ownership, no minimum investment |
Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur | Graduates with a degree from outside Canada earned within the last 10 years | CLB 5 | $100,000 in Calgary or Edmonton, $50,000 elsewhere; 34% or 51% ownership |
Farm | Experienced farmers | No minimum listed | $500,000 net worth and $500,000 invested in a primary production farm |
The Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream is designed for founders educated outside Canada, making it a practical option for many applicants in Pakistan.
Applicants abroad can also use the Rural Entrepreneur Stream. They need 3 years of experience as an active business owner, or 4 years as a senior manager, within the last 10 years. They must also complete an exploratory visit to the community, in person or by video, and obtain a community support letter before submitting an EOI.
How to Apply for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program
AAIP worker streams use an Expression of Interest (EOI) system. Candidates submit a profile that Alberta scores out of 100, and each draw selects profiles based on score, labour market needs and available nominations. The process has five steps:
- Check eligibility: Alberta’s Eligibility Explorer, launched on 17 June 2026, shows which streams a candidate may qualify for.
- Submit a Worker EOI: the $135 fee must be paid within 24 hours of submission, or the EOI is cancelled. Each EOI remains valid for one year. Rural Renewal candidates must also include their community endorsement letter.
- Wait for an invitation: Alberta may invite a candidate to a different stream from the one selected in the EOI.
- Submit the application: candidates have 15 days to accept or decline the invitation. Once they accept, they have 30 days to complete the application and pay the $1,500 non-refundable fee.
- Receive the nomination and apply for PR: Express Entry candidates accept the nomination in their profile and then await an invitation from IRCC, while other nominees apply to IRCC directly.
If Alberta refuses an application, the applicant may request reconsideration within 30 days of the decision letter for a $250 fee.
Reconsideration is only available if Alberta made an error in applying the program criteria, and new information cannot be submitted. Entrepreneur streams follow a separate process, with a $200 EOI fee and a $3,500 application fee.
AAIP Draws 2026: Latest Results and Cut-Off Scores
Alberta held 84 draws between 26 January and 7 October 2026 and sent more than 13,500 invitations. Scores use Alberta’s own 100-point grid, so they cannot be compared with CRS cut-offs.

7 Oct 2026 | Express Entry: priority sectors (aviation) | 22 | 56 |
2 Oct 2026 | Alberta Opportunity Stream | 123 | 54 |
29 Sep 2026 | Express Entry: priority sectors (general) | 200 | 64 |

How Many Alberta PNP Nominations Are Left in 2026?
Alberta had 1,062 nominations remaining on 7 October 2026. Its 2026 allocation increased from 6,403 to 6,603 after IRCC granted 200 additional nominations on 10 August.
Stream or pathway | 2026 allocation | Issued | Remaining |
Alberta Opportunity Stream | 3,562 | 3,105 | 457 |
Rural Renewal Stream | 1,057 | 766 | 291 |
Dedicated Health Care Pathways | 518 | 342 | 176 |
Accelerated Tech Pathway | 619 | 528 | 91 |
Express Entry priority sectors | 619 | 616 | 3 |
Tourism and Hospitality Stream | 156 | 141 | 15 |
Entrepreneur streams | 60 | 36 | 24 |
Law Enforcement Pathway | 12 | Fewer than 10 | Not stated |
Total | 6,603 | 5,541 | 1,062 |
The pool held 34,478 worker EOIs for those 1,062 spots, and 948 applications were still waiting to be processed. Alberta also issued 50 physician and 12 French-speaking nominations outside this allocation.
Since a Worker EOI stays valid for one year, a profile submitted today will likely compete for the 2027 allocation as well.
Alberta Immigration from Pakistan: Which AAIP Routes Are Open?
Several AAIP routes are open to applicants in Pakistan, although most require an Alberta job offer, a community endorsement or business capital. The Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream are not available to them, as both require applicants to already live and work in Alberta. The options include:
- Health professionals: the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, for candidates with a job offer from an Alberta health employer who meet Alberta’s licensing requirements.
- Tech workers: the Accelerated Tech Pathway, for Express Entry candidates with a full-time Alberta job offer of at least 12 months in an eligible tech occupation.
- Workers with a rural job offer: the Rural Renewal Stream, for applicants outside Canada in TEER 0 to 3 occupations who have a community endorsement and proof of settlement funds.
- Express Entry candidates in priority sectors: workers in sectors such as construction, agriculture and aviation can be selected from the federal pool, but only 3 of the 619 nominations for 2026 remained on 7 October.
- Business founders: the Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream and the Rural Entrepreneur Stream.
- Experienced farmers: the Farm Stream, for candidates with a net worth of at least $500,000 who can invest $500,000 in an Alberta farm.
Applicants should also watch out for paid job offers. Alberta says employers and agencies cannot charge a fee for a job offer, so any such request is a red flag. When no Alberta route fits, our guide to Canada PR from Pakistan covers the federal and other provincial options.
AAIP Fees in 2026: Alberta and IRCC Costs
A single worker applicant pays $1,635 to Alberta and $1,675 to IRCC, for a total of $3,310. All amounts are in Canadian dollars:
Fee | Amount (CAD) | Paid to |
Worker EOI (since 7 April 2026) | 135 | Alberta |
Worker stream application | 1,500 | Alberta |
Entrepreneur EOI | 200 | Alberta |
Entrepreneur stream application | 3,500 | Alberta |
PR processing fee (principal applicant) | 990 | IRCC |
Right of Permanent Residence Fee | 600 | IRCC |
Biometrics (one person) | 85 | IRCC |
IRCC fees rose on 30 April 2026. A spouse adds $990 plus $600, and each child adds $270. Alberta’s fees are non-refundable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can someone apply for the AAIP without a job offer?
Yes, in limited cases. The entrepreneur streams and some Express Entry priority-sector draws do not require an Alberta job offer, but most worker streams do.
What score is needed for the AAIP?
Alberta does not set a fixed minimum score. Cut-offs between 22 September and 7 October 2026 ranged from 51 to 64 out of 100, while Tourism and Hospitality draws in 2026 required 71 to 73.
Is the Alberta PNP still open in 2026?
Yes, but only a limited number of nominations remain. Alberta had 1,062 left on 7 October 2026, including just 3 for Express Entry priority-sector draws.
How many CRS points does an Alberta provincial nomination add?
An Express Entry-aligned nomination adds 600 CRS points. IRCC still assesses the permanent residence application and makes the final decision.
Does an AAIP EOI guarantee an invitation?
No. An EOI keeps a candidate in the selection pool for one year, and Alberta selects candidates in each draw based on EOI score, labour market needs and the number of nominations available.
