Document checklist for a Canada business visitor visa application from Pakistan

November 2, 2026

A Canada business visitor visa lets Pakistani professionals attend meetings, conferences and trade fairs in Canada for under 6 months. Canada has no separate business visa, so you apply for a standard visitor visa and select “To visit for business.” This guide covers permitted activities, required documents, employer and host company letters, fees and the steps to apply. For the wider process, read our Canada visit visa from Pakistan guide. Hosts can also use our invitation letter guide for the business visitor letter.

Canada Business Visitor Visa from Pakistan at a Glance

A Canada business visitor visa is a standard Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) requested for a business purpose. Canada has no separate visa category with that name. Pakistani citizens apply for the TRV before they travel. For the full process, see our Canada visit visa from Pakistan guide.

  • Stay: Under 6 months; the border officer sets the date
  • Restriction: No work in the Canadian labour market
  • Fees: CAD 100 processing plus CAD 85 biometrics
  • Biometrics: Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore
  • Core documents: Passport, employer letter, host company letter, proof of funds

Who Is a Business Visitor in Canada?

IRCC describes business visitors as people who stay a few days or weeks to attend meetings or events. You must show that you:

  • plan to stay less than 6 months
  • Do not plan to enter the Canadian labor market
  • Have your main place of business and your income and profits outside Canada
  • Hold documents that support your application

A Pakistani employee or business owner attending a client meeting fits this test when salary and company remain in Pakistan. Applicants for a Canada business visitor visa must also meet Canada’s basic entry rules, covered below.

Permitted Business Activities in Canada

Many people search for a “business meetings visa Canada.” IRCC issues no visa under that name. A Canada business visitor visa covers the activities below.

Business Meetings

You may attend meetings with clients, suppliers or partners, provided your business and income stay outside Canada.

Conferences, Conventions and Trade Fairs

You may attend these events. If IRCC registered the event, the organizer gives you an event code. Enter it on your application.

Training Linked to a Canadian Business

IRCC allows training by a Canadian parent company you work for outside Canada, training the employees of a Canadian branch of your foreign company and training from a Canadian company that sold you equipment or services.

After-Sales Service Under a Warranty or Sales Agreement

You may provide after-sales service when a warranty or sales agreement requires it. Carry a copy of the agreement.

Buying Goods or Services and Taking Orders

You may buy Canadian goods or services for a foreign business or government. You may also take orders for goods or services.

Business Activities That Require a Work Permit

You need a work permit if you plan to work in Canada or stay longer than 6 months. A main place of business or main source of income inside Canada also places you outside the business visitor category.

If you are an owner who wants to run a business in Canada, review the C11 entrepreneur work permit. If your activities fall in a grey area, AIRCS can assess them before you apply.

Do Pakistani Citizens Need a Visa for a Business Trip to Canada?

Yes. Pakistani citizens need a visitor visa before travelling. Use IRCC’s online visa tool to confirm the document for your passport. A valid multiple-entry visa covers later trips until it expires.

Business Visitors Apply for a Temporary Resident Visa

IRCC has no separate business visa form. You apply for the visitor visa online and select “To visit for business.” Your documents prove the business purpose.

CUSMA Provisions Do Not Apply to Pakistani Citizens

Under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), US and Mexican nationals may also do activities such as research, marketing and general services. Pakistani citizens follow the standard business visitor rules above.

Canada Business Visitor Requirements for Pakistani Applicants

The Canada business visitor requirements come from IRCC’s eligibility test. Officers measure each item against your documents.

Genuine Business Purpose and Temporary Intent

Show a specific business reason, such as a named meeting, event or training session. You must also plan to leave Canada at the end of your visit. Employment, business ownership, property and family in Pakistan support this.

Sufficient Funds for the Trip

You need enough money for your stay and your return home. The IRCC checklist for Pakistani applicants (IMM 5853) asks for at least 3 months of bank statements. Six months shows a longer history, which IRCC’s visitor visa guidance recommends. Statements should show your name, address and the bank’s contact details. See our Canada visit visa bank statement guide.

Passport Validity

IRCC advises a passport valid for at least 6 months from your travel date. Renew early if it expires soon, because your visa cannot be valid beyond your passport’s expiry.

Admissibility: Criminal, Medical and Security

You must not be a criminal, security or health risk to Canadians. IRCC may request extra documents, such as a medical exam. Give complete and accurate answers on every form.

Business Visa Canada from Pakistan: Required Documents

After you answer IRCC’s questions, the portal builds a personalised checklist. Upload every item on it. Documents for a Canada business visitor visa from Pakistan typically include:

  • Colour passport copy: the page with your birth date and any pages with stamps or visas
  • Employer letter
  • Letter of invitation from the Canadian host
  • Purpose of travel letter
  • Bank statements for at least 3 months
  • Itinerary: flight details, accommodation or event registration
  • Travel history: previous visas and entry or exit stamps

Your visa office may request more, such as company registration or NTN tax records for business owners. Check the requirements for Pakistan on IRCC’s website.

What the Employer Letter and Host Company Letter Must State

Two letters support a Canada business visitor visa application.

Employer letter: Use company letterhead and date it no earlier than 3 months before you apply, as IRCC’s visitor visa page asks. Include your full name, date of birth, job title and description, start date and current salary. Add your manager’s name, phone and email, and the company’s name and address. Your manager or an HR contact signs it.

Host company letter: The Canadian company writes it to you, following IRCC’s letter of invitation requirements. It covers your name, position, address and phone number, the company’s relationship and business history with you, and the signatory’s name, title, address, phone and email. It also gives the company’s name, headquarters address, facility addresses, website, registration date and business description. The host sends two originals, one for the application and one for the border. Some visa offices require notarization, so confirm this before applying. Our invitation letter guide has a business visitor section.

Purpose of the Visit

The host letter states why you are visiting. For part of a longer project, it explains the project. Write “attend a supply contract meeting at the Toronto office,” not “business work.”

Who Bears the Travel Costs

The host letter lists the accommodation and living expenses the Canadian company covers. If your employer pays for flights, state it in a supporting letter and attach proof.

Dates and Duration of the Trip

The host letter gives the length of your visit and, if known, your departure date. Use identical dates in the itinerary, purpose of travel letter and application form.

Purpose of Travel Letter for a Business Trip

Upload this under Client Information in Optional Documents. State your name, employer and job title, the trip’s purpose, the Canadian host, the meeting dates, who pays each cost, and your return date. Every detail must match your other documents. See our Canada visit visa cover letter guide for structure.

How to Apply for a Canada Business Visitor Visa from Pakistan

  1. Confirm that you qualify as a business visitor.
  2. Scan your documents as clear digital copies.
  3. Sign in to the IRCC portal and select “To visit for business.” Enter the event code if you have one.
  4. Upload your documents and pay the CAD 100 fee. First-time applicants also pay the CAD 85 biometrics fee at submission.
  5. Wait for the biometrics instruction letter.
  6. Book an appointment at the Canada visa application centre in Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore. Appointments are mandatory.
  7. Give your fingerprints and photo.
  8. Track your application in your IRCC account.

If your biometrics are still valid, you may not need to repeat step 7.

Business Visitor Visa Processing Time

Processing times for a Canada business visitor visa vary by country. Check IRCC’s processing times tool for Pakistan before you set travel dates. Book your biometrics appointment as soon as the letter arrives, because delays here delay processing. Buy non-refundable tickets only after approval.

Length of Stay and Visa Conditions

The expiry date on your visa is the date by which you must arrive in Canada. The border officer decides your length of stay at each entry, and most visitors receive up to 6 months. A Canada business visitor visa can be valid for up to 10 years or until your passport or biometrics expire, whichever comes first. A valid visa does not guarantee entry.

Carry these documents in hand luggage: passport, visa, letters of support, invitation letter, your host’s 24-hour contact details and proof of funds. To stay longer, apply for a visitor record before your status expires. See our visitor visa extension guide.

Common Reasons Business Visitor Applications Are Refused

Officers refuse applications when you do not show that you meet the eligibility test. Frequent causes:

  • weak evidence that you will leave Canada at the end of the visit
  • an unclear trip purpose
  • insufficient or unexplained funds
  • letters that contradict each other or other documents
  • an outdated or incomplete employer letter
  • activities that resemble work in Canada
  • admissibility concerns

If refused, you may reapply. Address each stated concern with new evidence.
