Financial Analyst Jobs in Canada: Demand and Pay

Financial analyst jobs in Canada are concentrated in banking, investment and pension management. According to Statistics Canada, most analysts work for banks, brokerages, insurance companies and investment firms.

Job Bank rates the 2025 to 2027 job prospects for financial analysts as follows:

  • Moderate: Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Saskatchewan

  • Limited: Ontario, British Columbia and Prince Edward Island

In Alberta, financial analysts earn an average of CAD 46.37 an hour, or about CAD 92,414 a year, according to the 2023 Alberta Wage and Salary Survey.

Although Ontario is rated limited, Toronto is still Canada’s largest financial center, with nearly 210,000 people working in financial services. The city is home to major offices of RBC, TD, BMO, Scotiabank and CIBC, and to large pension funds such as CPP Investments, Ontario Teachers’, OMERS and HOOPP.

NOC 11101 and Other Finance Job Codes

Your duties decide your NOC, not your job title. According to Statistics Canada, financial and investment analysts collect and analyze financial data and prepare forecasts and reports. They use this work to advise their employers or clients on investments and financing.

NOC 11101 is a TEER 1 occupation, so it counts as skilled work for the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Canadian Experience Class. Use this table to match your finance job in Pakistan to its Canadian code:

Your role in Pakistan

Canadian NOC

Financial analyst, investment analyst, treasury analyst, securities research analyst, portfolio manager

11101 Financial and investment analysts

Chartered accountant, auditor, tax accountant

11100 Financial auditors and accountants

Financial planner, personal investment advisor

11102 Financial advisors

Stockbroker, investment dealer, securities broker

11103 Securities agents, investment dealers and brokers

Controller, finance director, treasurer

10010 Financial managers

00012 Senior managers – financial, communications and other business services

Every code in this table counts as skilled work for Express Entry, so you can still apply if your duties match one of the other codes. If your work is mainly in audit, accounting or tax, our guide to Canada PR for accountants covers NOC 11100 in detail.

Express Entry for Financial Analysts in 2026

Express Entry is the main federal route to Canada PR for financial analysts, and most applicants from Pakistan apply through the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

Federal Skilled Worker Program

To qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, you need:

  • One year of continuous full-time paid work in NOC 11101 within the last 10 years, or an equal amount of part-time work

  • CLB 7 or higher in all four English skills

  • An Educational Credential Assessment for your degree

  • At least 67 out of 100 points on the FSW grid, which is not the same as your CRS score

  • CAD 15,263 in settlement funds for a single applicant, with higher amounts for larger families

Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class is for candidates who have completed one year of paid, authorized work in Canada within the last three years. The work must be in a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 job. IRCC held a CEC draw

Category-Based Draws in 2026

NOC 11101 is not part of any of the 10 Express Entry categories for 2026, and IRCC has not held a general draw open to all programs since April 2024. French language proficiency is the only category open to every occupation. To qualify, you need NCLC 7 in all four French skills, and its 2026 cut-offs of 382 to 420 are the lowest of any draw open to financial analysts applying from Pakistan.

CRS Score for Financial Analysts

A financial analyst from Pakistan with a master’s degree, three years of work and CLB 9 English scores 469. That is a strong score, but in 2026 applicants outside Canada were invited mainly through French draws or with a provincial nomination.

This example uses a single 29-year-old with a four-year BBA, an MBA assessed as a master’s degree, three years of work in Pakistan, CLB 9 English in every skill and no Canadian work experience:

Provincial Nominee Programs for Financial Analysts

Most provincial routes for financial analysts in 2026 require a job offer from an employer in that province. A provincial nomination linked to Express Entry adds 600 CRS points, which raises the sample profile’s score to 1,069. That is well above the 2026 PNP draw cut-offs of 697 to 805.

Ontario

Ontario replaced its old streams with the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream, which opened for expressions of interest on 4 August 2026. You need a full-time, permanent job offer from an Ontario employer and at least CLB 6, and your employer must submit the offer through Ontario’s employer portal.

British Columbia

The BC PNP High Economic Impact draws on 24 September 2026 invited 426 workers whose BC job paid at least CAD 52 an hour and CAD 105,000 a year. A separate points-based round on the same day invited 288 candidates with a minimum score of 131. Both rounds required a job offer from a BC employer.

Saskatchewan

NOC 11101 is not on Saskatchewan’s excluded occupation list, so financial analysts can apply to two subcategories without a job offer. Saskatchewan Express Entry requires an active Express Entry profile, while Occupations In-Demand does not.

Alberta

Alberta’s Express Entry pathways focus on health care, technology and law enforcement, along with construction, agriculture and aviation, but not finance. Financial analysts already working full-time in Alberta can submit an expression of interest for the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

CFA in Canada: What Employers Expect from Financial Analysts

According to CICIC, financial analysts are not regulated anywhere in Canada, so you do not need a license or registration to apply for PR or start work. Professional credentials still improve your chances of getting hired:

  • CFA: Statistics Canada’s NOC profile states that the CFA or another recognized designation, such as the CFP or CIM, is usually required. Local CFA societies also operate across Canada.

  • CPA or CTP: some employers ask for the CPA, and treasury roles may require the Certified Treasury Professional designation.

  • MBA or master’s in finance: a bachelor’s degree in finance, commerce, accounting, business or economics is the minimum, and some roles require an MBA with a finance focus.

Professional designations such as the CFA, CPA and CTP do not add CRS points. Only your degree, assessed through an Educational Credential Assessment, counts toward your score. If you plan to advise clients on securities or manage their portfolios, you must also register with your provincial securities regulator.

Canada PR for Financial Analysts: Step-by-Step Plan from Pakistan

Follow these six steps to prepare your Canada PR application from Pakistan:

  1. Get your degree assessed: order an Educational Credential Assessment from WES for your BBA, B.Com, MBA or M.Com. WES requires Pakistani degree documents to be sent through HEC. To earn points for two degrees, have each one assessed.

  2. Take your language tests: aim for CLB 9 or higher in English. To qualify for French draws, you also need NCLC 7 on the TEF Canada or TCF Canada test.

  3. Collect reference letters: get a letter from every employer on company letterhead, signed by your supervisor or HR officer.

  4. Create your Express Entry profile: list your experience under NOC 11101. Your profile stays valid for 12 months. Describe only the duties you actually performed, such as analyzing financial data, preparing forecasts and recommending investments, because false information can lead to a refusal and a five-year ban.

  5. Prepare proof of funds: FSW applicants must prove their settlement funds, so get official bank letters showing your current balance and six-month average.

  6. Request police certificates: apply early for your Pakistani police character certificate so it does not delay your application. Your spouse and any children aged 18 or older who come with you also need one.

After you receive an invitation, you have 60 days to submit your application and complete a medical exam with an IRCC panel physician. Our guide to Canada PR from Pakistan explains each document in detail.

FAQs

Are financial analysts in demand in Canada?

Job Bank rates prospects as moderate in seven provinces, including Alberta, Quebec and Saskatchewan, and limited in Ontario, BC and PEI. Financial analysts are not a targeted Express Entry occupation in 2026.

Can I study in Canada first to get PR as a financial analyst?

Yes. A Canadian master’s in finance can lead to a post-graduation work permit. After one year of skilled work in Canada, you can apply through the Canadian Experience Class.

Is there an age limit for Canada PR as a financial analyst?

No, but age affects your CRS score. A single applicant gets the maximum 110 age points from age 20 to 29, and these points decline each year after 30, reaching zero at 45.

Is a Pakistani two-year B.Com enough for Canada PR?

Yes, but it earns fewer points. A single applicant gets 98 CRS points for a two-year program and 120 for a bachelor’s degree of three years or more. Two credentials earn 128 points, and a master’s degree earns 135.

How long does Canada PR take for financial analysts?

After an invitation, you have 60 days to submit your application. IRCC aims to process 80% of complete Express Entry applications within six months.
