Express Entry high wage occupations 2026

November 3, 2026

From 3 November 2026, Express Entry awards up to 70 additional CRS points to candidates with at least 12 months of Canadian work experience in one of 186 high-wage occupations. IRCC is recalculating every profile in the pool, and draws are paused for up to 2 weeks while it does.

For applicants in Pakistan, the bonus does not raise their own scores, but it can change the competition for invitations. This guide explains the Express Entry high-wage occupations list, how the new points are calculated and how Pakistani candidates can stay competitive.

Express Entry Changes November 2026: Key Facts

  • Effective date: 3 November 2026, announced by IRCC on 16 October 2026
  • Eligible occupations: 186 NOC codes: 31 at 2 times the average median wage, 89 at 1.5 times and 66 at 1.3 times
  • High-wage bonus: 20, 40 or 70 points for at least 12 months of Canadian work experience in one of these occupations, on top of regular Canadian experience points
  • Labour Market Integration factor: Up to 150 points, or 140 with an accompanying spouse
  • Unchanged factors: Age, education, language and skill transferability points
  • Invitation rounds: Paused for up to 2 weeks while IRCC recalculates every profile in the pool
  • Work experience outside Canada: Does not qualify for the high-wage bonus

What Is the Labour Market Integration Factor?

Introduced on 3 November 2026, the Labour Market Integration factor is a new part of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). It awards points for eligible Canadian work experience, with a bonus when that experience is in a high-wage occupation.

CRS Points for Canadian Work Experience in High-Wage Occupations

Candidates with at least 12 months (1,560 hours) of Canadian work experience in one or more high-wage occupations receive 20, 40 or 70 additional CRS points, depending on the occupation’s wage level.

High-wage occupation levelAdditional CRS points
At least 2 times the average median wage70
At least 1.5 times but less than 2 times40
At least 1.3 times but less than 1.5 times20
Less than 12 months of qualifying experience0

If your experience spans more than one wage level, IRCC awards points for the lowest level needed to reach 12 months. For example, 8 months at the 2 times level plus 4 months at the 1.5 times level earns 40 points, not 70.

This experience can be full-time or an equal amount of part-time work, and it does not need to be continuous. You can combine experience from more than one high-wage occupation, but if you hold two jobs at once, hours count only up to 30 a week.

Regular Canadian Experience Points

Candidates still receive regular CRS points for the length of their Canadian work experience, whether or not their occupation qualifies for the high-wage bonus.

Which Jobs Are on the Express Entry High-Wage Occupations List?

An occupation is on the Express Entry high-wage occupations list when its median wage is at least 1.3 times the Canadian average. IRCC’s list of 186 occupations takes effect on 3 November 2026:

  • 2 times the average (31 occupations): 70 points for Canadian work experience, 100 for a job offer.
  • 1.5 times (89 occupations): 40 points for experience, 70 for a job offer.
  • 1.3 times (66 occupations): 20 points for experience, 50 for a job offer.

The level is set by the NOC code, using 2023 to 2025 wage data, not by your salary. Experience points require 12 months (1,560 hours) of Canadian work in a listed occupation. A job offer must be written, full-time and for at least one year; no LMIA is needed. You receive the higher of the two, not both. If the list changes after your Invitation to Apply (ITA), the level on your ITA date applies.

Impact of the November 2026 CRS Changes on Pakistani Applicants

If you are applying from Pakistan, the new bonus does not change your score, because it only counts work done inside Canada. What changes is the competition around you.

  • Higher scores for candidates in Canada: A software developer with two years of Canadian experience and no accompanying spouse receives 53 points for that experience plus 40 high-wage points, for a total of 93 under the Labour Market Integration factor.
  • Rising CEC cut-offs: Canadian Experience Class draws closed between 516 and 523 from July to October 2026, including 519 on 15 October, the last CEC draw before the change. The new points are likely to push these cut-offs higher.
  • Competition above 500: On 25 October 2026, 21,322 of the 228,724 candidates in the pool scored above 500.

Ways to Raise Your CRS Score Without Canadian Work Experience

  • Language scores: Improving all four English abilities from CLB 7 to CLB 9 adds 56 points without an accompanying spouse. French at NCLC 7 or higher in all four abilities adds 50 points with CLB 5 or higher in English, or 25 points with CLB 4 or lower.
  • Category-based draws: Recent healthcare (475), trades (476) and French-language (382 to 435) draws closed well below CEC draws. Our guide to Express Entry’s 2026 rules explains the 12-month work experience requirement for occupational categories.
  • Provincial nomination: An Express Entry-aligned PNP nomination adds 600 CRS points, four times the 150-point maximum of the Labour Market Integration factor.

Does Your NOC Code Affect Category-Based Selection?

Yes. Your NOC code determines whether your work experience matches an occupation in an Express Entry category. Several Express Entry high-wage occupations, including registered nurses, pharmacists, general practitioners and secondary school teachers, are eligible for the Healthcare and Social Services or Education categories.

What Should You Check Before Express Entry Draws Resume?

From 3 November 2026, IRCC will recalculate all existing profiles and add high-wage points for Canadian work experience automatically. The process may take up to two weeks, and invitation rounds will be paused until it is complete. If you have a job offer, you must update your profile with the offer details.Use this period to verify:
  • Your NOC code matches the duties in your reference letters
  • Employment dates and weekly hours match your reference letters and pay records.
  • Your IELTS, CELPIP, PTE Core, TEF Canada or TCF Canada results are less than two years old and will remain valid when you apply for permanent residence.

 FAQs

What qualifies as a high-wage occupation under Express Entry?

An occupation qualifies when its median wage is at least 1.3 times the average median wage of the Canadian workforce. IRCC has designated 186 occupations at three levels: 1.3, 1.5 and 2 times the average.

How many CRS points does high-wage Canadian experience add?

Candidates with at least 12 months (1,560 hours) of Canadian work in a high-wage occupation receive 20, 40 or 70 additional points. Including points for length of Canadian experience, this factor has a maximum of 150 points without an accompanying spouse or 140 with one.

Does my salary determine my occupation’s wage level?

No. The level is set by your occupation’s highest median wage between 2023 and 2025, not by your own salary.

Why are Express Entry invitation rounds paused in November 2026?

From 3 November 2026, IRCC will recalculate all candidates’ CRS scores under the new rules, which may take up to two weeks. Invitation rounds will resume once the recalculation is complete.
